This is it...

This is how I like my evenings: tasty meal, warm house, comfy clothes, a big hot mug of pumpkin spice tea, and yoga.

To my friends who have been severely neglected due to my lack of internet/computer lately: sorry. I hope it will get better soon?

Get Used To It

It's sad but true: I blog less often when entertained at home. I offer no apologies. The bad part is that I feel like I forget "blog-worthy" material in the time between posts.

I had my first interview yesterday, and it went really well. It's in Alameda...so yeah. I would have to reconcile myself to driving 40 minutes there and back each day, but I figure it takes me an hour when I took the Muni, so I guess this way is better. We'll see what happens! I should hear back about another interview soon. I just like wearing my new suit I think. I feel all professional and fancy. Heh.

I have been using my time diligently, so other than exercising more and literally getting on my knees to scrub the floors, I have been practicing the culinary arts. Last night I made a surprisingly delicious (considering I hate fish and therefore have never fixed it before) meal, of Sole Meuniere, Roasted Potatoes, Wilted, Spiced Spinach and Tomatoes, and Berry Fool, WHICH is still sitting in the fridge half-eaten, because it is probably pretty bad for you, and we ate too much as it is. See:

A friend asked me to send her a picture of my wedding bouquet because she liked the way mine was done, and is planning her upcoming wedding. So after looking at the pics again, let me just say again that my florist was amazing and did EXACTLY what I wanted...anyone need a florist? I know a good one.

...or maybe I just wanted a picture of Noemma in here with me ;) (haha i do what i want!

Blame it on my Dell

My computer (RIP) lasted me the better part of 6 years, but finally has breathed it's last. We transferred all my crap to Nolan's computer, and now (I'm sure to his chagrin), are sharing his Mac while I job-hunt. Hence the lack of posts. So, here I sit on a Monday, trying to get everything done on here before Nolan exiles me to "somewhere not here" while he works on his paper for a few hours. Ah well. I'm thinking Daly City or Novato to burn some time looking around at wine and cat accessories. I know, even my shopping list is already more housewife-y. The good news is that I needed some excuse to drive around looking for a Salvation Army anyway, because I haven't gone through my closet in FOREVER and I need to get rid of some serious amounts of shirts, because my closet is clogged up and sometimes when I reach in to grab a shirt of any sort, my hand gets stuck (like sticking it in a sea anemone). Time to clean it out. Anyone want free clothes?

The job search is going well--I think I have submitted my resume to every open position in the city, haha. So we'll see what happens as people start receiving it.

Nolan and I are both getting really into working out and eating right. I know what you're thinking, but it really isn't a transient thing. We are trying to set good habits for farther down the road when our metabolisms aren't as fry-friendly. So we've been eating a lot of steamed and fresh things, whole grains, water...and doing yoga in our living room, which I LOVE! I can already see my abs again so that makes me extra excited. Goal: get my thighs toned for the first time in too long. Last time was at Davis from riding my bike, but it was like, muscly, and I don't want that. I just want long and lean toned muscles. C'mon Wii fit, is that really too much to ask?

Yesterday while driving to church, we saw a guy on the corner of Cole and Carl, waiting for a muni, and it turned out to be my muni-friend! And by "friend", I mean the loosest possible definition, because we have never spoken. I have been telling Nolan about this guy for awhile because EVERY SINGLE DAY we have gotten off of the same Muni (even when I am running late!), and walked almost all the way to our respective works together, not speaking, but fully acknowledging each other. It's kind of awkward, but like a little interesting piece of the work day. In my mind his name is Frodo Baggins because he is distinctly hobbit-looking. So, my little awkward hobbit-muni-friend, farewell until I ride with you again.

Thanks, Sarah for sending me this:

Good thing I'm an optimist...

Today I was laid off from my job. Yes, I will be sad to leave my wonderful coworkers and everything that is Magley & Associates, but I am trying to see this as a new adventure. I had a great run there and learned a TON, and am now ready to take the next step, whatever that may be. We laid off almost a third of our workers, and so those of us who left, went out at noon, ready to take on the world. I then spent the next hour of my life putting my business cards to good use with Nolan:

I then set about finally getting some Christmas pics on here...
This was what happened when Nolan was WAY too into Twilight and tried to "suck my blood" right over my vein -- can we say hematoma?

Here is my Opa reading up on the finer workings of the opposite sex:

And here are the men of the day, doing what I would assume to be man things outside.

There are more, but I am going to have to close here, as I'm playing settlers with Ross and Jennie. Questions about my unemployed status? Open for comments.

knoedeling

Last night we went to my aunt's house in Livermore to visit their family and Oma, who is still visiting from the East Coast. She made a delicious all-German dinner, complete with Knoedels and Gluehwein! Nolan was broken in to delicious German food and drink, and we fought over the last Knoedel, which is a sort of potato dumpling that you MUST eat with gravy or it's a little...well, look:

Apparently my dad calls them "sinkers" because they sink right to the bottom of your stomach, haha!
And the Gluehwein was fantastic too! Hot mulled wine is a tradition at Christmas in Germany. Literally translated it means "glowing (as in heat) wine", and it is delicious!

And apparently in the shop windows you see this flashing instead of "hot coffee" or whatever we have here:

(it blinks if you click on it!)

Also while browsing around I found this and you know I can't resist anything Twilight!

There is this phenomenon on sidewalks and escalators here, where you walk in a certain direction. I know this isn't a shock for any of you fellow city-dwellers, but on sidewalks: you walk on the same side you would drive on. On escalators: if you want to just stand there, you stand all the way to the right so that people can pass you on the left. Like on the freeway. Common sense. I mean I guess it isn't if you don't drive, but it seems to be ingrained. So it's always a little bit of a shock when a.) someone barrels into me on the street and I am tempted to yell "stay out of my lane!" or b.) random chick on the HUGE bart/muni escalator is looking around blankly while standing on the LEFT side and blocking traffic and people behind me are like, flipping ME the bird for not moving. Sweet.

I guess that is all for today. Still no pics. I actually HAD the camera in my hand this weekend while I was sitting AT the computer. But alas, no cable to be found. Sad, too, because we have an EXCELLENT video of my dad hula hooping on the wii fit. So close, yet so far...

Also, I am just about done with this cold weather. For Christmas, Nolan got a Brookstone alarm clock that does all sorts of things, from my dad, whose name is Bob. Normally that has nothing to do with anything, except the alarm clock is also called the "Bob". See for yourself here. His reasoning would be so that now, Nolan can take Bob everywhere with him. Bob will wake him up in the mornings. Bob will sit in his office with him. They both thought that was pretty hilarious. ANYway, so we check Bob every day to see how cold it is in our house. Yesterday when we woke up, it was 46 DEGREES. INSIDE. I KNOW.

Hopefully...

...I will get the pictures this weekend. I KNOW. Sorry. This isn't the only blog waiting for that kind of update :-P

We got out of work early today, like Wednesday, so really I have only worked 2 full days this week. w00t. and thank goodness because it was SO SLOW. New Years was fun--I think I went to bed at 9:30 or so. I went out for New Years once and it was a total bust (other than my midnight kiss, heh ;) ), so I am convinced that it is just an excuse for prices to go up, clubs to all of a sudden have a cover, and a bunch of skeazy drunk guys to try and cop a feel. So. I haven't gone out since. Afterall, it's just another day. I stayed here with Nolan and Josh B. who was visiting, and we played Wii until I broke it, and then had pudding and went to bed. Just another night. Also I was so.sad....that I broke the Wii. Don't panic Mom, I just THOUGHT it was broken. I was adjusting the power strip, hit the power button on accident and blew the circuit in the adaptor. But for about 24 hours until the boys went out and got me a new adaptor, I thought I had blown my precious Wii. What trauma.

Since I am off work early, I think we are going to get to go to dinner with my Aunt and her family...definitely beats working, and they're in the city anyway at the Academy of Sciences. Okay I'm off to go Wii it up!
